About the Millersville 250 Logo

The 250th anniversary of Millersville will occur in 2011 and the Executive Committee of said initiative has decided on a logo to celebrate the accomplishment in February 2009. Designed by Millersville University undergraduate student Zach Reese, the logo will be used on letterhead, promotional items and the Millersville 250 website.

As of February 2009, a sophomore at Millersville University, Reese is majoring in philosophy, with a minor in graphic communications and English film studies, and is looking into film school after he graduates. Working as a design student in the University Communications and Marketing Department, he said he never worked on a job outside of the University, so it was new to him, and on a slightly larger scale.

“I wanted the logo to reflect the characteristics the citizens’ value in their hometown. I wanted to show the closeness of the community and its welcoming feeling,” Reese explained. “I wanted to represent the religious and agricultural influence on the town, and the upcoming renovations to the borough park the community.”

The logo consists of a landscape silhouette with religious, educational and residential depictions. There is also an oak tree symbolizing the borough’s ancestral heritage, strength, vitality and stability, and an open entranceway with a setting sun, “reminding people of the inviting nature of this borough,” said Steven A. DiGuiseppe, co-chair of the Millersville 250 Anniversary Committee.

The Millersville 250 Committee itself was “particularly awestruck” with his design and Reese is proud to call this the largest job he has done. He explained, “There’s always a certain amount of pride you get when you see something you made get presented around the neighborhood.”
